Bontrager Node 2.1 Digital Computer

Get up to, ahem, speed with the next generation of computers. Bontrager's Node 2.1 Digital Computer lets you train smarter with power, speed, cadence and distance on one easy-to-read screen. Heart rate training is a snap with the included transmitter strap, too. It also tells temperature (the air's, not yours, which is probably good), and gives you your altitude and the percentage of the grade that you're climbing. Additional features include auto start, 20 minute time-out sensors and a settable interval timer. Node computers can receive data from 3rd party power devices that are ANT+ compatible like SRM cranks and PowerTap hubs, too.

I must constantly fiddle with this computer and rarely can get all three functions to work simultaneously. Its use is definitely not intuitive or user friendly.

    Comments:

The Power never worked. The 10mm Cadence band magnet broke, I and several others had this problem. And now you cannot get a replacement. When this one goes bad, probably soon, I'm going with a Cat Eye produce and stay away from any Bondrager.

      Comments:

I've found this computer to deliver as expected. Speed, cadence, altitide and HR functions operate as expected. Roll-out test confirms wheel circumference settings, but would still use custom option for variable wheel sizes. Not sure the "grade" delivers proper measurement, but when I'm on a steep hill, any reading would be approximate at best anyway -- I know it's steep! Referencing other reviews, I've been lucky to have had no issues with pairing any of the sensors. Can't account for the problems others have experienced. Overall I'm very pleased with the Node 2.0.

      Comments:

Having the 1.1 on my other road bike I found the setup of the 2.1 easy and its use identical. Comparing the altimeter to actual elevations from known geographic values, I found the current altitude and accumulated gain/loss surprisingly accurate. All other measurements were accurate, but of course are dependent on proper setup -- garbage in, garbage out. VERY satisfied with the unit. Have had no issues, none, with syncronization with the sensors. Not sure why others have encountered trouble. Lucky, I guess. Suggestion: READ THE ONLINE MANUAL. The quick version that comes with the unit barely covers the basics.

This works well, just keep the sensors clean.

Like the title says, keep the sensors clean and you shouldn't have a problem. I have it synced to my Domane 5.2 sensors with over 5,000 miles and never had an issue.

Unit looks good, and would be perfect if it actually worked. Unit will not "pair" with sensor. LBS couldn't get to work either and reported numerous similar complaints.

          Comments:

I ride 25 mile trips 3 times a week over suburban roads. 2 times in the past year the computer has reset itself and erased all data . The first time I had 500 + miles and the second time 255 miles. The time of day is wrong everything is lost. I have replaced the battery and adjusted the magnet and this still occurs. It is upsetting to lose the data.

This is an awesome computer. I owned a Nano 1.1 and this is a vast improvement. I have had none of the issues mentioned in the reviews. It keeps track of my interval trainingl program and lets me know the results of the zones I train in which has been a big help in improving my average speed and endurance. For the price it is a bargain.

            Comments:

I purchased it because I liked all the funtions. Little did I know. That if you want the speed and cadence you have to purchase the Interchange ANT+ Combo sensor. I wanted to us is on another bike. Yes you have to get another Interchange ANT+ Combo sensor for the other bike. This reminds me of car racing. If you want to make a small fortune invest a large one. With all I'm investing in this one for two bikes. I probably could have purchased two Cat Eyes to do all this and cash in my pocket.
